Update: RTM Motion to Rescind Vote

Updated: Apr 28

Dear Fairfielders,

RTM to Consider Motion to Rescind Parking Authority Dissolution

For those of you following the recent decision by the RTM to dissolve the Parking Authority, we wanted to provide an important update.

Following the vote, a petition was circulated to challenge the decision. Unfortunately, due to an error by the Town Clerk’s Office, the official date to begin collecting signatures was listed incorrectly. As a result, the petition window was shortened by a full day, and ultimately, the effort fell short of the required signatures.

However, this issue is far from over.

On Monday, April 21st, at 7:30 pm, the RTM Standing Committees will meet to consider a resolution to rescind the vote to dissolve the Parking Authority. This resolution is being brought forward in light of several procedural missteps that occurred during the original vote.If the resolution passes, the item will be properly referred by the RTM Moderator to the appropriate committees.  Then the process will begin again, with a full and transparent hearing, as required under the Town Code (Chapter A115), including the proper timeframe for ordinance review, rather than the abbreviated version caused by motions to suspend the rules during the initial vote.

If you’re interested in learning more, Fairfielders4GoodGovernment, a bipartisan civic group, has compiled a detailed timeline of events and additional information on their website.

We encourage all residents to write to their RTM representatives and urge them to support rescinding the prior vote and restarting this process correctly. Fairfield deserves transparency, due process, and a government that works for everyone.

It’s just good democracy.

We hope you find this information helpful.  Please contact us at rtc@fairfieldrtc.com with any questions, we always welcome hearing from you.

Sincerely,
