Republican Candidates Say Rising Property Taxes Threaten Seniors' Ability to Age in Place.

Fairfield, CT – October 18, 2025 — Republican Board of Finance candidates Jim Meyers, Brendan Lynch, and David Pelsue are suggesting that Fairfield consider the possibility of a Senior Property Tax Freeze to help older residents stay in their homes.
“Rising property taxes are forcing too many seniors out of their homes,” said Jim Meyers.
Brendan Lynch added, “We’re committed to senior tax relief so long-time residents can stay in our community. The BOF Senior Tax Relief Committee should discuss whether a local tax freeze, like Florida’s Homestead Act, is feasible here.”
The proposal, raised during a recent candidate debate, highlighted a clear party divide: Republican candidates expressed support for exploring a potential senior property tax freeze, while Democratic candidates opposed implementing such a measure.
The Republican candidates emphasized that any program needs a financial review. David Pelsue said, “The BOF subcommittee should analyze the numbers, assess the fiscal impact, and develop a plan that balances support for seniors with the town’s long-term financial health.”
If viable, the full Board of Finance could advance subcommittee recommendations to the RTM as a revised ordinance.
The municipal election is Tuesday, November 4. Early voting runs from October 20 to November 2 at the Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours on October 28th and October 30th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
